Course Overview

Increasingly volatile Climate change. Untested, non-labeled toxic GMO food in supermarkets & restaurants. Lifestyle related degenerative diseases is reaching epidemic proportions. Industrial scale top soil erosion, poor water quality and a total loss of biodiversity are all on the rise! Humanity is at a crossroads. How can we create strong resilient communities to address these challenges? How can we create nutritious healthy food in our communities and for the next generations?

This weekend Urban Permaculture Design Course will give an introduction to the history of Permaculture and describe the key ethics and design principles that underpin Permaculture design. By learning the Permaculture ethics and design principles, you will begin to observe the urban environment around you from a more holistic, ‘systems thinking’ perspective, where problems become solutions. Specifically we will focus on two main core areas, all of which are pragmatic and can be implemented at home. Participants will learn how to design and implement the following:

  1. Urban gardening theory and design, soil creation, raised beds design, and vertical walled gardens.
  2. Vermicompost Food waste management that in turn leads to creating nutrient rich food to grow more plants.

This course is for anyone interested in:

  • The current challenges of climate change on cities and how to become resilient.
  • Creating a small business, by designing and implementing intelligent, low cost, low tech sustainable solutions.
  • Applying Urban Permaculture design to homes, schools, hospitals and public spaces.

The theoretical portion of this course is supported by several hands-on activities and group work to deepen your understanding of urban permaculture and its many applications.

This Urban Permaculture Design course is appropriately set in the old town of Chiang Mai in an Urban setting. We will meet on day 1 at 09.30am.  Lunch and accommodation is not included.
